Tom's Daylillies

About Us
us.gif (37761 bytes) Hi there, we are the Maddox clan, Joyce and Tommy,  we live in Biloxi, MS`. We were raised in Laurel, MS, and graduated from high school in 1953. Upon graduation I enlisted in the Air Force and  served for 23 years. I retired in the summer of 1975. After I graduated from The University Of Southern Mississippi, I taught for 14 years at Phillips Jr. College in Gulfport Miss, After which I totally retired to gardening (flowers) and fishing. We raised a variety of flowers before concentrating on daylilies. I have raised daylilies since around 1990. In 1996 we began hybridizing daylilies.   Our focus now is in hybridizing tetraploids and a few special diploids spiders that we work with. We raise about 5000 seedlings a year at first but have now cut back to about 1000. I bloom about 90% of my seedlings the first year, by early planting and force feeding with fertilizers and lots of water. I grow my seedlings in gallon buckets, sitting in about one inch of water (small 8X8 foot ponds with plastic bottoms to hold water).  Hardly ever need to water.  An example of the ponds can be seen on the Daylily section of my site.  My wife of 52 years keeps me on the straight and narrow. She is the computer operator and photographer that is so necessary for our daylily  craze. I am the past President of the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST DAYLILY SOCIETY. I have  registered my first Daylily, ABILENE NAN (named after my mother) since then  more. Please look at some of my seedlings in the Daylily section....
On the left is the head pollen dabber , weed puller, and full time dieter, on the right is the photographer and all around supervisor. She also answers the phone, since I stay busy in one of our 40 beds or so. What started out as a hobby, now  is completely out of control, if you know what I mean.
